The Boys’ and Girls’ Cross-Country teams kicked off their seasons with wins over Northampton and South Hadley on Sept. 12.
The Lady Lions were led by junior Deaven Theriault, sophomore Sylvia Lipior, senior Allison Anselmo, and junior Alexa Repko, while the boys were led by junior Brian Crowley and senior Dan Crowley, who split first and second place by a fraction of a second.
Coach Rebecca Gauvin gave The Cub her overall opinion about the meet, saying that the teams were, “incredible, and did everything that we had asked them to do.”
The expectations for the rest of the season are just to “take it one meet at a time,” Gauvin said, “but our goal is to win Western Mass for both sides.”
The Lady Lions captain, senior Siearra Papuga, said, “I’m really excited that we beat Northampton because last year Northampton won Western Mass, and us beating them makes us 10 times closer to winning [it] this year.”
The teams continued their winning ways on Sept. 21, with wins over Belchertown and Renaissance, in which the girls took second through seventh, and the boys had an eight-way tie for second.
Both teams look to keep their undefeated seasons rolling as East Longmeadow and Holyoke Catholic visit LHS on Sept. 27.
