On October 27, 1:53 PM, the students in the Class of 2025 at Ludlow High School were hit with devastating news. Their field trip to Salem was canceled! But Why? How? What happened?
The school trip was canceled because of the lack of available nurses. Mrs Nemeth said “a field trip is an extension of the educational day at LHS and a nurse is required to attend most field trips. If no LPS school nurse is able to attend a field trip we reach out to nursing agencies. In this case no LPS nurses were available, and although we thought we had an agency nurse committed to going, a nurse ended up not being available for that day.” With no other nurses available on such short notice the trip had to be canceled.
For a junior year trip for the class of 2025, there is a new idea in the works, but is not definite at this time.
Mr Augusto said that to prevent this from happening again to future trips, “ I would have a nurse and a backup nurse set up as well.” Class advisors can also create a list of parent nurses available for the field trip. These volunteers would need to be CORI checked through our Central Office Human Resource department.
The hope is with knowledge of how to prevent this situation, it will not arise again for another class field trip.
