On Nov 12, 65 seniors were awarded the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. Students were surrounded by family, the superintendent, director of curriculum, chairman of the school committee, and school committee members in the auditorium.

The scholarship is given to those students who received at least an Advanced on an MCAS test, along with nothing lower than a proficient on any other MCAS. Also, students must have combined scores from the last three MCAS tests that place them in the top 25 percent of students in their class in Ludlow.

“I’m very happy to receive this scholarship,” says Lia Fialho. “ I am applying to UMass Amherst, so if I go there this scholarship will help pay for the tuition.”

This is the eleventh year that the scholarship has been awarded to students, with the first scholarships awarded to students who were graduating in 2005. The scholarship provides a tuition waiver for up to eight semesters of education at a Massachusetts university or state college. But, it only covers tuition with fees, room, and boarding not included. Principal, Lisa Nemeth, spoke about the history of both John and Abigail Adams along with how this scholarship came to be.
