Ludlow High School offers a plethora of after-school clubs, from artistic clubs like art and drama to activities like the Spanish club and the Cub. Somewhere in between comes LHS Cares. LHS Cares is one of the most diverse, involved, and beneficial clubs you could join in your high school career.
LHS Cares isn’t the type of program where you meet only after school to do the same thing every week. Every meeting contains a new opportunity to help the community around you, get more involved in the school, or better your college admission resume. Mr. Hokanson runs the club and he is constantly finding new projects he knows the members will be interested in.
The club often stays after school for community service. They often make sandwiches in the cafeteria to give out for rescue missions. Around Christmas time this year, the club also stayed after school for the Angel card project, where they decorated cards to send out to less fortunate families who had less to look forward to during the holiday season. The community service opportunities are highly sought after and easy to log down if you’re interested in National Honors Society.
LHS cares also offers activities during the school day. On some Thursdays, Mr. Hokanson rallies a group to head to Harris Brook in the morning. There, they represent the high school and talk with the kids who come early for their mindful minutes program. They join the activities and help out where help is needed. You also get to skip a period in the morning, which is a plus.
Aside from school day opportunities, there are also activities you can do on weekends. They help out around the community and manage things around Ludlow you have probably seen before. LHS Cares members put up ribbons around the town for Red Ribbon Week. They also represent Ludlow by getting involved in things like open house police stations and walks for good causes. They also get involved in Toys for Tots at the town hall and clothing drives for rescue missions.
There are many opportunities to get involved in the school, and LHS Cares is a club that just hands them to you. It is a great club to help your community, get involved in Ludlow, or to have something to do after school. As always, it’s looking for new members!
