Cody Brown is a new history teacher here at LHS, but who is this man, and where did he come from? Students enjoy his class for its atmosphere and his teaching style. Chloe Liszka, a freshman here at LHS, said “his class is quite easy to pass and the lowest grade in his class is a 74.”
The reasoning behind this is that Mr. Brown uses a wide variety of different teaching styles ranging from individual to group work, and class discussions, with large and small projects thrown in the mix. He also uses many resources such as the textbook, articles, videos, and slideshows. These are all reasons why students find his class interesting and have ample opportunity to do well. And they have the grades to prove it. Although new, Mr. Brown has a teaching style that fits wonderfully with the LHS student body.
This is Mr. Brown’s first year teaching at LHS. He previously taught at Belchertown as a student teacher for his practicum, as well as at Forest Park Middle School for his pre-practicum. Aside from teaching students, Mr. Brown has taught a massage therapy class to adults for four years.
Though a teacher now, Mr. Brown never thought it would go past an interest. He said that he always liked to coach and to “give direction and see how it motivated or inspired people to take that in their own way.” The reason he thought this would not become a career for him was because he did not go to college right after high school. However, when he did go back to school with much more motivation, drive, and vision, he was extremely happy to have teaching become his career.
Outside of school, you can find Mr. Brown out on the diamond playing slow-pitch softball. In high school, baseball was his main sport, and now softball helps him stay in touch with his sport. Family time is a big thing in his life as well. Together, the Brown family goes hiking and cooks together.
LHS has been very welcoming to Mr. Brown, both students and teachers alike. He feels integrated into the community and truly loves it here, having had many positive experiences. Mr. Brown says that he loves the spirit here at Ludlow High School and the participation during spirit week.
Mr. Brown hopes that students, whether they have him or not, know that he is someone they can go to with questions, concerns, funny stories, or anything that they would like to share. He hopes that he can be there for not only his students, but anyone who just needs a listening ear or someone with advice.
